Commission designates Roblox and Reddit as VLOPs; ChatGPT as VLOSE

On 31 August 2026 the European Commission designated ChatGPT as a Very Large Online Search Engine (VLOSE) and Reddit and Roblox as Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) under the DSA (IP/26/1772).

Threshold and compliance clock

The services declared that they reach at least 45 million average monthly users in the EU, meeting the designation threshold. After notification they have four months (to January 2027 per the press release) to comply with additional VLOP/VLOSE obligations: assessing and mitigating systemic risks from the service and algorithmic systems relating to illegal content, negative effects on minors, users’ physical and mental well-being, fundamental rights, electoral processes and public security.

Roblox is described as an immersive gaming and creation platform enabling users to create, publish and play user-developed games. Supervision for Roblox will be in cooperation with the Netherlands ACM; ChatGPT and Reddit with Ireland’s Coimisiún na Meán (as stated in contemporaneous Commission materials).
