Apple China account and storefront: first-test questions
Analysis
By UA Ledger staff — 1 min read

Before mainland iOS UA, confirm ISBN for paid/IAP availability on Apple China, MIIT filing readiness, and that App Review local-requirement answers match the China build.
Apple’s App Store is available in mainland China, but it is not a free pass around Chinese game licensing. NZ MFAT’s September 2026 guide Entering China’s Mobile Gaming Market states that Apple’s App Store requires publishers to provide an ISBN before a product can be made available to Chinese users, and that Mobile App Filing is required to publish or update games on Chinese platforms. Apple’s own App Review Guidelines §2.3.6 require honest age-rating answers and compliance with local content-rating or warning rules in each territory where the app is available. MIIT’s APP filing notice still bars distribution platforms from shipping unfiled apps.
First-test questions (before mainland iOS spend)
| # | Question | Evidence to attach | Not enough |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Is the China storefront SKU the licensed China work (name / publisher / operator match the NPPA row)? | NPPA batch ISBN + 批复文号 beside App Store Connect metadata | Global English title similarity |
| 2 | Has the ISBN been supplied for paid or IAP availability to Chinese users? | MFAT restatement of Apple China ISBN gate for paid/IAP games | Soft-launch without IAP “just to test ads” |
| 3 | Is MIIT Mobile App Filing complete for the China binary path? | Filing number ready for platform checks; notice forbids unfiled distribution | “ICP for the website only” |
| 4 | Do App Review notes and age-rating answers match China-local obligations for this territory? | Guidelines 2.3.6; China age-rating artefacts from the ISBN pack | Copy-paste of US ESRB answers alone |
| 5 | Are developer / legal entity and bank / tax details consistent with who operates the China SKU? | Contract chain with China operator/publisher as required for ISBN | Overseas DUNS account with no China operator map |
| 6 | Does the creative promise the China build (not the global SKU’s unlicensed content)? | Side-by-side of playable/store screenshots vs licensed build | Global trailer with untranslated or unlicensed scenes |
Limits
MFAT is a dated government market report, not Apple’s App Store Connect UI screenshot. Apple’s public Review Guidelines state the local-compliance duty; they do not, on the opened page, reprint the China ISBN form fields. Treat Connect field names as account-specific and verify in-console.
