AdMob’s initialization optimisation became the default

A later default can make an old opt-in checklist misleading.

AdMob’s v24 release changed optimized initialization and ad loading from an optional configuration to enabled defaults. The current guide confirms the version boundary. Release history; Current guide.

What an old checklist can miss

A task written for an earlier SDK might still tell an engineer to enable a flag that is already on by default. Conversely, an explicit override can preserve older behaviour after an upgrade. The useful follow-up is therefore the effective configuration in the shipped build, not whether a line was once added to a source file.

Our recommendation is to keep a versioned record of the manifest and initialization path. If startup behaviour changes, compare those artifacts before assuming the ad network or a creative is responsible. The guide explains the intended mechanism; it does not supply a measured result for the game being reviewed.

Evaluate performance with a defined test

Select representative device and startup conditions, record the build and measure the outcome that matters to players. A default-setting change is not itself proof that ANRs fell or first-session completion improved. Those are empirical questions.

The evidence timeline closes the documentation question: the optimization is no longer only an opt-in instruction for the earlier SDK generation. It leaves runtime effectiveness open. That boundary helps a growth team ask for the right handoff—observed startup behaviour under a named configuration—before connecting a release to acquisition or retention changes.
