Epic’s first mobile-store scorecard reported 29 million installs
Analysis

A store launched successfully and still missed its own distribution goal; both statements can be true.
Epic’s August 2024 mobile-store launch became a measurable distribution story in January 2025, when the company reported 29 million installs against its stated 100 million end-2024 goal. The outcome is Epic’s own account, not an independent audit. Launch; Scorecard.
Keep store installs separate from game acquisition
Installing a store is one step in a longer journey. It does not establish that a person installed a particular game, became an active player or generated revenue. A studio assessing the channel needs evidence across those later steps.
Our recommendation is to map the funnel from campaign click to store installation, game installation and the chosen product outcome. Preserve the markets and operating systems actually available in the test. The historical launch scope should not be silently expanded to countries introduced later.
Read the missed goal with the right certainty
The goal and reported count show that Epic described its early distribution as below plan. The same article offers the company’s explanation for friction. This check does not independently validate every causal allegation in that explanation, and it does not infer that all alternative distribution is commercially unsuccessful.
The timeline is a historical outcome check, not a fresh 2026 install estimate. A current allocation decision would need a later compatible metric and a game-specific trial. The useful lesson is evidential: a launch announcement answers availability, while a distribution scorecard and cohort economics answer different, subsequent questions.

| Field | Evidence or limit |
|---|---|
| Earlier record | 2024-08-16 — Epic launched its mobile store on Android worldwide and iOS in the EU. |
| Later evidence | 2025-01-23 — Epic reported 29 million store installs and said this was below its 100 million end-2024 goal. |
| Outcome supported | Launch confirmed; vendor-reported distribution goal not reached by its own account |
| Still unconfirmed | Store installs were not independently audited and do not establish active game players or campaign profitability. |
| Next check | Seek a later comparable store metric with its definition and reporting date |
