NativeAdViewHolder moved from deprecated to removed
Analysis

A deprecation warning became a breaking change in the next major SDK generation.
Google’s release history shows a complete deprecation-to-removal sequence for NativeAdViewHolder: deprecated in 24.8.0, then removed in 25.0.0. The same primary release history documents both milestones. Release notes.
The warning became an upgrade constraint
A deprecation can remain a maintenance task while the old API is still available. Removal changes the task: code or dependencies that still require it must be addressed before the relevant upgrade can work. This follow-up confirms the documented status transition, not the condition of any particular game.
Our recommendation is to inspect both direct application code and the integrations that provide native ads. An app team may never reference the class itself while a dependency still does. Record the resolved versions and the owner responsible for each affected component.
Verify the player-facing placement
After migration, test the native ad inside its real screen. Check loading, interaction, dismissal or navigation as applicable, and return to gameplay. Replacing a class successfully does not establish that the placement behaves correctly in every layout.
The timeline should remain attached to the change ticket so an old “deprecated, defer” decision is not mistaken for approval to ignore the removal. It does not forecast monetisation impact. The next evidence is a concrete build and observed placement behaviour; revenue conclusions belong to a separately defined analysis after the technical migration is understood.
Inspect the evidence
Download the announcement-to-outcome evidence timeline. The extraction separates documented facts from our analysis and unknowns.
| Field | Evidence or limit |
|---|---|
| Earlier record | 2025-11-20 — AdMob 24.8.0 deprecated NativeAdViewHolder and directed users to NativeAdView. |
| Later evidence | 2026-02-17 — AdMob 25.0.0 removed NativeAdViewHolder. |
| Outcome supported | Removal confirmed in the published release history |
| Still unconfirmed | No game’s native-ad integration or mediation adapters were inspected. |
| Next check | Search the release dependency graph and exercise the actual native placement |
