Scopely’s Niantic games deal moved from agreement to closing

The transaction completed; claims about shared UA performance still need separate evidence.

Scopely’s March 2025 agreement to acquire Niantic’s games business closed on 29 May, according to the buyer group. The original announcement also carries the closing update. Agreement; Completion.

Close the transaction claim, not every strategic prediction

The later record supports changing the deal’s status from agreed to completed. It does not prove that acquisition systems were unified, that player data became interchangeable across games or that campaign efficiency improved. Those would be separate factual claims requiring evidence about actual implementation and permitted use.

For the archive, preserve the distinction between reports of talks, a signed agreement and the closing. A later completion does not retroactively make every earlier rumour correct in its detail.

Update the business relationship map

Our recommendation is to review which entity a partner or supplier is dealing with, who owns approvals and whether any operative terms or integration instructions changed. Do not assume that a change in corporate ownership automatically changes every game’s contracts or marketing workflow.

The useful acquisition question is concrete: did the transaction create a documented change in a channel, product or commercial relationship that affects this studio’s next decision? This edition does not answer that with a speculative synergy story. Its timeline supplies the completed transaction milestone and a list of the operational evidence still needed. A later follow-up should attach those records rather than repeat the original ambition in the past tense.
