The Game Center exception to Apple’s XML retirement ended

Apple’s November 2022 XML notice left an exception for existing Game Center management. A later requirement ended that exception in July 2024. A migration guide stopping at the earlier notice would now be incomplete. Earlier scope; Exception ends.

An exception is a maintenance obligation

The important change is the scope of the surviving interface, not merely another date in a release calendar. An automation team could have correctly retained a Game Center path during the first transition and still need a later migration.

Our recommendation is to preserve the reason an exception existed in the first place. When the provider changes that scope, the old decision can then be revisited deliberately rather than dismissed as an unexplained legacy dependency.

If a campaign promotes an achievement or competition, identify the automation that creates or updates the relevant configuration. Test the intended operation through the supported interface and read back the resulting resource. A job reporting success is not enough if it did not change the correct app or environment.
