The Ledger #16 covers devcom Gamescom week: vendor-floor chatter, Digital Turbine's stabilising results and what Cologne means for buyers.

Devcom opened in Cologne on Monday and runs through today ahead of Gamescom's public start tomorrow, so here are four items from the floor and the fortnight worth carrying into the planning for the week after.

Devcom Gamescom week opens with a mid-tier ad tech push

This year's devcom hall carries a heavier concentration of mid-tier ad networks and measurement vendors pitching alongside the usual publishing and platform talks, and the pitches are polished. Treat them as a shortlist generator. Not a decision. What it means for buyers: follow up with a capped, time-boxed test against your own data before committing spend, because a booth claim hasn't met your cohorts yet.

Gamescom 2025 opens tomorrow with Opening Night Live

Gamescom's public show floor opens Aug 20, with Opening Night Live kicking off the week and Nintendo returning with a Switch 2 presence after last year's console launch cycle. Expect trailers. Lots of them. What it means for buyers: the wave of cinematic and franchise marketing over the coming days is cutdown material for mobile creative teams, not merely console-side news to skim.

Digital Turbine's on-device business looks steadier

Digital Turbine's fiscal Q1 2026 results, reported earlier this month, point to the On Device Solutions segment stabilising after several weak quarters through fiscal 2025. Steadier isn't growing, though. What it means for buyers: the on-device preload channel deserves a fresh, capped look rather than a permanent write-off.

Vendor-floor chatter turns to consolidation

Conversations around the devcom and early Gamescom halls this week keep returning to the same theme as Drake Star's Q2 report from last month: more consolidation expected among mid-tier ad networks and hybrid-casual publishers before the year is out. What it means for buyers: diligence any smaller vendor relationship against the possibility of a platform or ownership change mid-contract, and keep integration paths portable where you can.

What we're watching next week

Gamescom's public days run through Aug 24. Expect more studio marketing pushes as franchise reveals continue; watch for Sonic Rumble and other franchise-led launches using the week's attention for a global push. The following Ledger carries Mobvista's H1 2025 results alongside a fuller Gamescom wrap once the show floor closes.
