Playtime and session length describe different engagement shapes

Do not multiply medians from separate distributions to manufacture a player profile.
GameAnalytics reports roughly 12 minutes of daily playtime for the median mobile game and session lengths of 3.1–3.5 minutes. These are separate benchmark distributions. Engagement section.
Do not invent a synthetic median player
Multiplying a median session length by a median session count does not generally recover median daily playtime. Each median can come from a different position in a different distribution. The arithmetic may be useful as a rough scenario if clearly labelled, but it is not a measured player profile from the report.
Our recommendation is to inspect the joint measures inside the game’s own data. Ask whether long playtime comes from many returns, longer individual visits or a small group of highly active players. Each answer suggests a different product question and a different acquisition promise.
Link the metric to the creative hypothesis
GameAnalytics’ definitions are a starting point for matching activity metrics. After aligning instrumentation, investigate whether a short-session creative attracts players whose actual play pattern fits the promise.
That investigation should preserve cohort, device and observation window. A portfolio benchmark cannot tell you which ad caused a particular behaviour. The artifact instead keeps units and aggregation visible, helping a growth and product team avoid treating “engagement” as one interchangeable number. Use it to structure a joint analysis, not to force every genre into the same session design.

| Report / publisher | 2026 Mobile & PC Gaming Benchmarks / GameAnalytics |
| Period | Calendar 2025 |
| Population | Qualifying GameAnalytics mobile games |
| Metric under review | Median mobile playtime about 12 minutes/day; session length 3.1–3.5 minutes |
| Aggregation | Weekly game-level quantiles; distinct metrics |
| Critical limit | Separate metric medians need not describe the same game or player. |
