Battle-pass premium track payback worksheet (IAP vs pass ARPU)

Illustrative premium-pass payback with an explicit Google Play service-fee input. Not a market ARPU average.
Premium-pass pricing errors show up as D7 ARPU cliffs when store fees and refunds stay off the sheet. Keep fee fraction as a reader input, not a hidden “net”.
Official fee posture (dated)
Google Play’s Service fees page (source read 20 September 2026) states there is not a single service fee. For markets still on the prior schedule until regional rollout of the updated fees: developers on the 15% tier pay 15% on the first $1M USD annual earnings and 30% above that; auto-renewing subscriptions are 15% regardless of earnings. For EEA, UK or US transactions starting 30 June 2026, the page publishes a new/existing-install table that also adds a 5% billing fee when Play Billing is used. Treat any live rate as programme- and geography-specific.
Apple StoreKit documents how to offer IAPs; it does not replace your finance team’s current Apple proceeds schedule. Do not hard-code a universal Apple commission in this worksheet.
Illustrative example
Inputs (teaching only): premium pass list price 9.99 currency units; 1,000 premium buyers in the cohort week; store fee fraction 0.15; refunded premium units 20; UA spend allocated to the pass push 4,000.
| Output | Worked-example result |
|---|---|
| Gross pass revenue | 9990.00 |
| After refunds (980 paid units) | 9790.20 |
| After 15% fee on post-refund gross | 8321.67 |
| Contribution after allocated spend | 4321.67 |
| Gross ROAS on allocated spend | 2.4476 |
Change the fee fraction when your programme is not on 15%. Change refunds when finance reports a different week. Do not treat 9.99 or 1,000 buyers as industry averages.
Facts vs limits
| Fact | Limit |
|---|---|
| Google documents 15%/30% and a dated EEA/UK/US redesign | Exact live fee depends on programme enrolment and region |
| Fee is an explicit worksheet input | This sheet invents no market pass ARPU |
| Refunds reduce gross before fee in this teaching model | Your finance VAT/tax treatment may differ |
