Meta Advantage+ app campaigns: controls a game buyer still has
Analysis
By UA Ledger staff — 3 min read

Documented creative, geo, bid and reporting controls that remain available in Meta Advantage+ app campaigns—versus targeting options Meta lists as unsupported.
Meta’s Business Help Centre article About Advantage+ app campaigns (body-read via the en-GB mirror on 19 September 2026) documents which inputs remain available under Advantage+ app automation and which targeting features are explicitly unsupported. This is a control availability record, not a performance case study. Announcement and enforcement effective dates are not stated on the article and remain unknown.
What the documentation currently requires / allows
The article states Advantage+ app campaigns use Meta AI to help optimise bidding, audiences and placements, while still allowing “manual adjustments, if needed,” and notes integration with Advantage+ catalogue ads for streamlined app-ad creation.
Documented available controls and capabilities:
- Creative volume: no stated limit on total creatives; buyers can upload up to 50 images, videos, playable ads or Instant Experiences at one time and auto-create ads; pair a single image/video with specific text/headlines or upload up to five texts and headlines; may choose images from a product catalogue.
- Audience inputs retained at campaign level: combination of country, language and app store; note that Apple’s SKAdNetwork and aggregated event measurement campaign limits still apply.
- Optimisation models: app install optimisation, app event optimisation and value optimisation.
- Bidding: lowest cost bid strategy, with optional bid cap.
- Reporting breakdowns: age, gender, age and gender, country, impression device, platform, platform and device, and placement.
- Scale pattern: multiple Advantage+ app campaigns allowed for goals such as multiple app events, creative testing and regional penetration (example: separate campaigns for complete registration vs add to cart).
Explicitly unsupported when using Advantage+ app campaigns (per the same article):
- Several targeting options including gender, demographics, interests, behaviours, custom audience inclusions and lookalike audiences (campaign-level country/language/OS targeting remains; account-level advertising settings can set minimum age and location inclusions/exclusions; app advertising settings can set custom audience exclusions and attribution settings).
- Ability to filter for Advantage+ app campaigns inside Ads Manager (name campaigns memorably instead).
- Mobile app ads that use the traffic, engagement, leads or sales objectives (i.e. this product path is the app-campaign Advantage+ path described in the article).
What is recommendation, not a hard control
Opportunity score recommendations are described as experimentally proven suggestions; Meta notes that opportunity score itself does not reflect or guarantee actual or future performance. Treat that as vendor guidance, not a control inventory item.
Who should act, and how
Game media buyers should inventory live Advantage+ app campaigns against the supported list (geo/language/OS, creative bulk upload including playables, lowest-cost ± bid cap, AEO/VO) and stop expecting interest/lookalike inclusions inside this product. If granular demographic targeting is mandatory, the documented unsupported list implies a different campaign path—confirm in Ads Manager rather than assuming Advantage+ can be “partially” restored.

Limits of this record
Body-read from Meta Business Help Centre (en-GB HTML). No Ads Manager account was inspected; availability can be account-gated. This does not rewrite the archive essay on Advantage+ for games—it is a dated control table only.
