Documented Demand Gen asset types versus App campaign HTML5/playables, plus web-to-app measurement scope for games creatives.
Creative leads asking whether a game playable belongs in YouTube Demand Gen should start from Google’s asset tables—not from App campaign habits. Demand Gen’s documented creatives are image, video, carousel and product-feed formats across YouTube (including Shorts), Discover, Gmail and the Google Display Network. HTML5/playable packages are documented for App campaigns, not as a current Demand Gen install creative. Uploaded HTML5 display for GDN-in-Demand-Gen is listed as coming soon (planned for late 2026).
What Demand Gen documents as eligible assets
About Demand Gen campaigns describes campaigns that capture engagement and action across YouTube (including Shorts), Discover, Gmail, Maps and the Google Display Network. The comparison table lists Demand Gen creative assets as images (landscape, logo, portrait, square), text fields, video (landscape, portrait, square, vertical), carousel cards and product feeds—with a link to asset specs.
Demand Gen campaign creative: Asset specifications and guidelines details those image and video dimensions and an ad-format × placement eligibility matrix. Formats covered: product feed, image, video, and uploaded display (static & HTML5) on the Google Display Network row. The matrix does not define a playable/interactive game-demo asset type for YouTube Shorts or in-stream the way App campaigns do.
Where playables actually live today
About HTML5/Playable ads for App campaigns is explicit: HTML5/Playable assets are an App campaign format (zip ≤5MB, orientation meta tags, CPE billing, 30-day install window after engagement). Notes: not eligible for App campaigns for pre-registration or engagement; AMPHTML unsupported.
For Demand Gen’s Display Network expansion, Google Display Ads campaigns have a new home in Demand Gen lists Uploaded display ad (HTML5) as Coming soon to Demand Gen — planned for late 2026. That is not the same product as App campaign playables, and it is not documented as generally available on this check date.
App-install measurement adjacent to Demand Gen
About Web to App Acquisition Measurement states Demand Gen is among campaign types that can report web-to-app acquisition when first-open (and related) events are imported. That is a measurement bridge for web Demand Gen influencing installs—not evidence that playable packages upload into Demand Gen asset groups.
Who should act, and how
Creative and UA leads should:
- Brief Demand Gen game ads as image/video/carousel (and feed where relevant)—not as playable zips.
- Keep HTML5/playable production on App campaigns for installs against the App campaign playable spec.
- Treat late-2026 GDN HTML5-in-Demand-Gen as a watch item, not a shipping path.
- If using Demand Gen for upper-funnel YouTube while App campaigns handle installs, wire web-to-app measurement deliberately rather than assuming creative parity.
Limits of this record
Body-read of Google Ads Help articles only. No Ads account was inspected. Google’s “late 2026” HTML5 plan is a vendor roadmap statement, not an observed ship date. Announcement dates for Demand Gen itself are out of scope.
