Chart Watch, September: Mobile Game Download Charts

September's mobile game download charts stayed familiar, with puzzle holding its lead and survival titles anchoring the ad-spend side again.
Store-ranking and ad-intelligence services rarely agree on September's exact order, and this desk has said as much before, most recently in Chart Watch, March: Survival Titles Hold the Spend Line. So the safe read on the mobile game download charts this month is the shape rather than the precise ranking. The top ten held its recent pattern. Nothing looks like a genuine breakout.
Puzzle kept its download lead, with the same names at the top of the chart that have sat there most of the year. Survival and kingdom-builder titles (Whiteout Survival and Last War: Survival among them) stayed near the top of the ad-spend side rather than the download side, and that split is still the more useful distinction for a UA team reading these charts, because a title spending heavily on UA isn't automatically the title acquiring the most installs; it may simply be defending a retention-heavy position against a shallower field of challengers. Monopoly GO! remains a fixture near the top of global spend rankings. That stopped being news by September, but it's still worth naming, since a hybrid title sustaining that spend level this far into its lifecycle isn't the industry norm.
The genre observation behind September's mobile game download charts
Continuity, not change. The genres that have held the top of the mobile game download charts for most of 2025 (puzzle on downloads; survival and kingdom-builder on spend) show no sign of a new entrant disrupting either list this month, and that stability says something on its own: the cost of dislodging an incumbent from either chart hasn't gone down. Any team plotting a Q4 launch against one of these categories should assume the competitive floor sits exactly where it has sat all year, not lower because a slow month hints at fatigue at the top.
What it means for buyers
A flat September is a planning gift, not a null result. Q4 forecasts can rest on the same competitive assumptions the team used for Q3 without adjustment, which frees planning time for execution risk (creative freshness, review queue timing) rather than re-modelling a shifting chart. Hold the current model. Keep checking it.
