Million Victories' case gives a concrete localisation starting point: a speaker-to-camera introduction followed by gameplay. It does not show that copying every surface detail is necessary.

Million Victories' case gives a concrete localisation starting point: a speaker-to-camera introduction followed by gameplay. It does not show that copying every surface detail is necessary.

What the public case establishes

TikTok reports Million Lords testing creator videos, identifying a speaker-to-camera transition into gameplay, then commissioning French and German variations through Bambassadors. The brief carried over elements such as setup, position and tone from an English-language execution. This is the platform's account of the campaign, not our own video observation. TikTok for Business case study.

This is a source-led creative casefile, not a frame-by-frame viewing or a campaign we ran. The diagram below is our own schematic. It does not reproduce the advertiser’s footage, and we have not established reuse permission for that footage.

The decision worth examining

A successful original contains several possible causes at once: language fluency, authority, explanation and familiarity with the genre. Copying all of them preserves a working reference but prevents learning which elements matter. Localisation should first protect accurate strategic meaning; only then should a team test whether a translated performance or a locally rewritten one communicates the same decision more effectively.

Our proposed review separates invariant game claims from flexible delivery. Troop deployment and territorial progress must be explained correctly regardless of language. Humour, rhythm and the way a speaker establishes credibility may need local judgement. A literal translation can preserve words while changing the perceived relationship between the presenter and the viewer.

A usable next check

Prepare two local-language scripts from rights-cleared gameplay: a faithful translation and a locally rewritten explanation with the same factual claims. Have native reviewers assess credibility and understanding without knowing which version is the control. If both pass, run a market-specific experiment with stable campaign conditions; do not pool French and German outcomes merely because they share a source concept.

Reference table
Test elementProposed specification
ControlFaithful translation of the established explanation
VariantLocal rewrite preserving the same game facts and demonstration
ReadoutNative-language credibility, rule comprehension and market-specific cohort value
Stop or rejectReject factual drift or a pooled winner that hides opposite local outcomes

Download the populated case worksheet. Its control, variant and decision rules are a proposed experiment, not an account of results already measured. Keep the source URL with the worksheet when circulating it so reported findings cannot become unattributed team benchmarks.

Evidence boundary

The source does not provide original scripts, assignment details or a controlled decomposition of speaker, translation and campaign effects. The diagram is our localisation test map, and its proposed experiment has not run.
