A LiveOps campaign can tell players that something is new without showing why the new feature changes their session. The Monster Hunter Now case offers a precise creative question to test.

A LiveOps campaign can tell players that something is new without showing why the new feature changes their session. The Monster Hunter Now case offers a precise creative question to test.

What the public case establishes

TikTok's Niantic case describes a US campaign promoting Monster Hunter Now and Dimensional Links, with Group Hunt among its in-game objectives. The campaign combined brand and acquisition placements, creator material and messages including Hunt Anywhere and Then vs Now. TikTok reports a conversion lift study for the combined campaign. TikTok for Business case study.

This is a source-led creative casefile, not a frame-by-frame viewing or a campaign we ran. The diagram below is our own schematic. It does not reproduce the advertiser’s footage, and we have not established reuse permission for that footage.

The decision worth examining

The creative challenge is the gap between a feature name and a reason to return. Existing players may understand a hunt immediately, while new viewers still need to identify their own role. One message cannot assume both levels of familiarity. A feature-led ad should make the changed action legible before leaning on franchise recognition or creator familiarity.

Our proposed case map separates the promise of coordinated play, the visible action that demonstrates it, and the in-game milestone used to evaluate the resulting audience. This does not reconstruct Niantic's footage. The published study covers a multi-format programme; it cannot tell us whether a specific phrase or creator segment caused the observed response.

A usable next check

Build two authorised feature explanations using the same capture. One opens with the feature label; the other opens with a concrete coordination problem the feature resolves. Test comprehension separately among existing players and people unfamiliar with the game. Only then consider a campaign experiment tied to an appropriate feature-use event, with unchanged eligibility and onboarding paths.

Reference table
Test elementProposed specification
ControlFeature-name-first explanation
VariantPlayer-problem-first explanation using identical game capture
ReadoutCorrect feature description by familiarity group; later feature-use rate
Stop or rejectReject an execution if new viewers infer features absent from their eligible game version

Download the populated case worksheet. Its control, variant and decision rules are a proposed experiment, not an account of results already measured. Keep the source URL with the worksheet when circulating it so reported findings cannot become unattributed team benchmarks.

Evidence boundary

No original video viewing, campaign export or lift-study methodology inspection was performed for this draft. The public account supports a campaign-level description, not causal attribution to one hook or a guarantee of long-term retention.

For background, see the creative brief is a hypothesis document and post campaign creative debrief process. These are existing archive discussions, not independent certification of this case. No first-hand campaign result is asserted.
