Mobile game creative reference for Creative fatigue is a portfolio problem

Creative fatigue in mobile UA is rarely fixed by another edit. It is a portfolio problem caused by too little distance between concepts.

Fatigue is often diagnosed at the asset level and caused at the portfolio level. A team can ship many files while repeatedly showing the market the same proposition dressed in different colors, and no amount of fresh editing will fix a creative fatigue problem that actually sits one layer up, in how similar the underlying concepts are to each other.

Measure conceptual distance

Group assets by the audience tension they express, the fantasy they sell, and the mechanic they demonstrate rather than by format or launch date. If most production clusters around one combination of those three things, visual variation, a new color palette, a new voiceover, will only delay saturation rather than prevent it. The market is responding to the proposition underneath the edit, and a proposition it has already seen ten times will keep decaying no matter how the tenth version looks.

Budget exploration deliberately

Separate exploitation variants, safe iterations on a proven concept, from genuinely exploratory concepts, and give each a suitable success criterion. Exploration needs enough runway to teach the team something even if it underperforms on day one. Exploitation needs enough discipline to stop when the signal decays, rather than running on inertia because it once worked well. Portfolios that blend these two budgets without separating them tend to starve exploration first, since it looks riskier in a weekly report, which is exactly backwards for fixing a fatigue problem.

Read fatigue as a portfolio signal, not a single-asset alarm

When a top concept's performance starts to decay, the instinct is to refresh that one asset immediately. A more useful first step is checking how many other live concepts share its tension and mechanic. If the answer is several, refreshing the one that decayed first will only buy a few extra weeks before its close relatives decay too, because the market has been reacting to the shared proposition all along, not to the specific execution that happened to be running.

The UA Ledger view

A healthy portfolio contains proven lanes, adjacent bets, and genuinely different hypotheses running at the same time. File count is not creative diversity, and a studio that tracks output volume without tracking conceptual distance will keep mistaking a large library for a resilient one.
