TikTok Smart+ for app campaigns: documented availability versus account eligibility
Analysis

Help-centre docs now list Smart+ App Campaigns for App Promotion globally; upgraded experience and per-account gating remain separate checks.
TikTok’s help centre now documents Smart+ App Campaigns as an App Promotion path for iOS and Android with global targeting countries. That is stronger than a launch blog alone. It still does not certify that every game advertiser’s account sees the same UI, or that the upgraded Smart+ experience has finished rolling out everywhere. About Smart+ App Campaigns; About upgrades to Smart+.
What the documentation currently supports
About Smart+ App Campaigns (last updated August 2026) lists:
- Objective: App promotion; OS: iOS and Android; targeting country: Global.
- Optimisation goals: MAI, AEO, and VBO (Android only).
- Placement limits: iOS TikTok and Lemon8 (where available); Android automatic placement including TikTok, Lemon8 and TikTok Pangle where available; Search not supported; manual placement selection not supported on the classic Smart+ App path described on that page.
- Bidding: iOS Maximize Results; Android Target Cost per Result and Maximum Results.
- Creation path: App promotion → App install → toggle Smart+ campaign on.
A May 2026 TikTok For Business post describes Smart+ as available within campaign setups for Traffic, App Promotion, Lead Generation and Sales, with modular on/off controls and app-campaign bidding options including Target ROAS and Cost Cap. That is vendor product messaging, not a per-account inventory check. How to build campaigns your way with Smart+.
What remains pending or gated
About upgrades to Smart+ (last updated August 2026) states that the upgraded Smart+ experience “may not be available to you yet” and tells advertisers to contact an account manager or support. It lists availability for Traffic, Sales, Lead Generation and App Promotion, with a unified creation flow, multiple ad groups, and optional manual placement selection. Treat classic Smart+ App documentation and the upgraded experience as separate surfaces until an account confirms which flow it sees.
This check does not observe a studio Ads Manager account, certify regional feature flags, or report campaign efficiency for games. Silence on a specific market or genre is “not confirmed”, not proof of absence.
Practical implication for a game buyer
Confirm in the live account whether App Promotion exposes a Smart+ toggle (or the upgraded unified flow), which placements and bid strategies appear, and whether Playable assets are offered only under the upgraded path. Preserve that screenshot or UI note beside any planning assumption that treats Smart+ as generally available for the title’s regions.
Inspect the evidence
Download the announcement-to-outcome evidence timeline. The extraction separates documented facts from our analysis and unknowns.
| Field | Evidence or limit |
|---|---|
| Earlier record | 2025-03 — Archive coverage framed Smart+ automation for game buyers as an emerging path, not a finished availability matrix. |
| Later evidence | 2026-08 — Help centre documents Smart+ App Campaigns for App Promotion, iOS/Android, global targeting; upgraded Smart+ still carries a “may not be available yet” note. |
| Outcome supported | Documented product path for App Promotion exists; general help-centre availability is stated as Global |
| Still unconfirmed | Per-account and per-region UI eligibility; whether every game advertiser sees upgraded Smart+; live campaign performance |
| Next check | Log the Smart+ / upgraded toggle, placements and bid options visible in the studio account for each priority market |
