Probabilistic vs deterministic revenue mix in F2P MMP reports

Separate deterministic and probabilistic revenue rows before declaring payback. Illustrative F2P example with AppsFlyer method definitions.
Modelled or probabilistic revenue rows in an F2P MMP export can look like incremental payback when they partially overlap deterministic matches. This lab keeps the methods in separate columns and subtracts labelled overlap once.
Definitions from the primary docs
AppsFlyer’s attribution model (updated 12 August 2026) separates deterministic methods (install referrer, device ID matching, preload, deep link) from probabilistic modeling, and states that when more than one valid engagement exists AppsFlyer prioritises clicks over impressions and deterministic over probabilistic methods. About probabilistic modeling describes probabilistic modeling as a privacy-preserving statistical fallback that produces aggregate campaign-level reports when deterministic signals are unavailable.
Neither page authorises adding every method’s revenue totals as one incremental book.
Synthetic F2P revenue mix
| Input | Value (USD) | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Deterministic attributed revenue | 12,000 | illustrative |
| Probabilistic / modelled revenue | 4,500 | illustrative |
| Overlap already in both buckets | 800 | illustrative |
| Output | Result |
|---|---|
| Naive sum | 16,500 |
| Distinct once | 15,700 |
| Overlap share of naive | 4.85% |
If a payback review used 16,500 against the same spend, it treated modelling as extra cash. Use the CSV to substitute your own observed splits.
Facts vs limits
| Fact | Limit |
|---|---|
| Deterministic and probabilistic are distinct methods in AppsFlyer docs | Vendor modelling internals are not fully public |
| Deterministic wins when both are valid | Overlap here is a teaching input, not measured campaign data |
| Probabilistic is aggregate campaign reporting | This does not validate any vendor’s matcher accuracy |
