Playtika: judge CTV inside the media mix, not as an isolated scoreboard

Playtika's public CTV case makes a valuable distinction between measuring a channel and understanding how it interacts with the rest of acquisition.

Playtika's public CTV case makes a valuable distinction between measuring a channel and understanding how it interacts with the rest of acquisition.

What the public case establishes

AppsFlyer describes collaborating with Playtika and initially working with tvScientific to support CTV-to-mobile measurement. The account says Playtika could compare campaign performance, while identifying media mix, lookback windows and contribution rates as continuing questions. It does not present a complete independent incrementality study. AppsFlyer case study.

This debrief analyses a public customer case published by a commercial supplier. It is not an original UA Ledger interview. The chronology below follows the supplier’s account; we did not inspect the advertiser’s dashboards or interview its staff.

The decision worth examining

A newly measurable channel can appear to create value partly by receiving credit for journeys that also touched existing media. That does not make the channel ineffective. It means the right decision is about its contribution to the whole mix, including overlap and displaced spend, rather than whether its attributed line looks attractive in isolation.

The proposed decision log separates the technical milestone from the economic milestone. Recording exposure and downstream events establishes observability. Establishing an incremental business contribution requires a defensible comparison and a stable outcome definition. A pilot can pass the first gate while leaving the second unanswered, and the review should preserve that distinction.

A usable next check

Map the channels active during a bounded CTV pilot, identify plausible overlaps and record attribution settings before launch. Compare total outcomes for an appropriately designed holdout or other justified experimental unit. Examine existing-channel changes alongside the new CTV line. If total business value remains flat while credit moves, investigate the redistribution before celebrating channel growth.

Download the populated case worksheet. Its control, variant and decision rules are a proposed experiment, not an account of results already measured. Keep the source URL with the worksheet when circulating it so reported findings cannot become unattributed team benchmarks.

Evidence boundary

This is an analysis of AppsFlyer's public customer account, not a Playtika interview or campaign audit. No household matching, attribution configuration or advertiser performance data was independently inspected.

For background, see reading an mmp dashboard without fooling yourself and cohort quality checklist ua spend. These are existing archive discussions, not independent certification of this case. No first-hand campaign result is asserted.
