Game Center automation: retire the XML assumption
Analysis
By UA Ledger staff — 2 min read

The last Game Center XML support date is a useful check for inherited release scripts.
An inherited release script can preserve an interface long after the team that wrote it has moved on. Apple’s Game Center XML retirement is a concrete reason to inspect automation before promoting a game feature that depends on correctly configured achievements or leaderboards.
Inventory the task, not just the repository
Start with the operation being performed: creating configuration, updating it, checking it or transporting assets. Find the command that performs the operation in the release pipeline and identify its owner. A search for an API name is useful discovery, but a scheduled job or external publishing service may sit outside the game repository.
Our recommendation is to test a representative configuration change in a controlled release workflow, then read it back through the supported interface. A successful process exit is weak evidence if the desired content never changed. Preserve the request identity and resulting resource, without putting credentials in the campaign ticket.
Connect the configuration to the promise
If a creative advertises competition or an achievement, product and growth should agree which live configuration fulfils that promise. This does not establish that Game Center improves acquisition. It makes the dependency reviewable before the campaign asks players to use it.
The retirement date is historical. The present editorial value is an applicability record for scripts and vendor integrations that still need a named owner. Reopen the record when publishing tooling changes or when a configuration update does not reach the intended game version.
The governing record is Transition from XML to the App Store Connect API. This edition checks the provider documentation; it does not inspect a studio account or certify a shipped build.
Inspect the evidence
Download the applicability and deadline record. The extraction separates documented facts from our analysis and unknowns.
