Ramadan competitive claim and sensitivity review for ad creative
Analysis
By UA Ledger staff — 2 min read

Operator checklist for competitive PvP/gacha claims and sensitivity review ahead of Ramadan MENA flights, anchored to Hijri calendar and US truth-in-advertising sources.
Aggressive competitive claims and urgency devices still need a truthfulness check when they ride Ramadan flights. Islamic Finder’s Special Islamic Days is the calendar source for Hijri observances used in this checklist; re-check the page for the year you are planning before locking creative. Separately, the FTC’s Bringing Dark Patterns to Light (FTC staff report PDF) report flags fake urgency cues, and the FTC Act remains the US statutory baseline against deceptive acts or practices. Local MENA advertising standards are jurisdiction-specific and are not certified by this draft.
Operator checklist
- Calendar first: Record Ramadan start/end from Islamic Finder (or a later official Hijri bulletin) for the flight year; do not invent dates from memory.
- Claim ledger: List every competitive, ranking, “#1”, win-rate, drop-rate or “limited” claim in the ad and endcard; attach the substantiation file or mark unsubstantiated — cut.
- Urgency honesty: If a countdown or “ends tonight” line appears, the sale or event must actually end then in store and web shop (see FTC dark-patterns discussion of fake urgency).
- Sensitivity pass: Remove or soften gore, sexualised framing, alcohol/gambling glamour and disrespectful religious imagery for MENA placements; record reviewer name and date.
- Gacha / PvP copy: Probability and competitive superiority claims must match in-game screens the player can reach in session 1; do not invent pity or ranking outcomes.
- Network policy: Re-read Meta/TikTok/Google restricted-category rules for the geo before upload; this checklist does not replace those policies.
- Local counsel gap: Mark Saudi, UAE, Egypt and other target markets as needing local advertising-standards review when claims are aggressive.
