iOS 26 creative rendering: WebKit changes are documented; studio retests stay open
Analysis
By UA Ledger staff — 2 min read

Safari/WebKit 26 public notes cover WebGPU, HDR, WKWebView insets and canvas fixes—not a closed playable QA log for any network.
Our earlier archive asked teams to retest live ad creatives when iOS 26 shipped. A year on, Apple and WebKit have published substantial Safari/WebKit 26 rendering and WKWebView documentation. What they have not published is a playable-ad or interstitial failure bulletin that closes a studio’s QA log. Documented platform change and observed network creative health remain different columns. WebKit Safari 26 beta notes; Safari 26.0 release notes.
Retest log: documented versus observed
| Retest item from archive guidance | Documented in WebKit/Safari 26 materials? | Observed in this check? |
|---|---|---|
| Web GL / GPU path for rich creative | WebGPU support added for Safari 26 on iOS/iPadOS/macOS/visionOS; WebGPU preferred over WebGL for new work | Not device-tested here |
| Image / canvas colour pipeline | HDR images on the web; `dynamic-range-limit`; canvas colour-space notes in release materials | Not device-tested here |
| Layout inside app web views | WKWebView `obscuredContentInsets` for overlapping browser/UI chrome; backdrop-filter behind transparent web views | Not device-tested here |
| Canvas resize / repaint | Release notes and WebKit write-ups include canvas and rendering bug fixes (including resize and view-transition cases) | Not device-tested here |
| Close button / safe-area / Liquid Glass chrome on network SDK end cards | No Apple primary doc in this review states a playable-specific Liquid Glass breakage or all-clear | Unconfirmed |
| AdAttributionKit postbacks on iOS 26 | Not established by the WebKit rendering articles used here | Unconfirmed |
| Per-network SDK rendering parity | Not an Apple document | Unconfirmed |
How to close or keep the retest
A playable QA lead can close a row only with a dated device or WebView observation for that network’s creative. Public WebKit feature notes are necessary context; they are not a substitute for loading the top-spend units on iOS 26 hardware or a current WKWebView host.
Keep rows open where the only evidence is “Apple shipped WebGPU/HDR/insets”. Silence from Apple on a studio’s clipped CTA is “not confirmed”, not proof the creative is fine.
Inspect the evidence
Download the retest log. The extraction separates documented facts from our analysis and unknowns.
| Field | Evidence or limit |
|---|---|
| Earlier record | 2025-09-17 — Archive retest checklist after iOS 26 ship date. |
| Later evidence | WebKit 9 Jun 2025 Safari 26 beta article documents WebGPU, HDR images, WKWebView API additions and many rendering fixes. |
| Outcome supported | Platform rendering surface changed in documented ways; no primary all-clear for network playables was found in this review |
| Still unconfirmed | Any studio’s device results; network SDK fixes; Liquid Glass-specific end-card failures or non-failures |
| Next check | Re-run top-spend creatives per network on current iOS 26.x devices and file dated pass/fail rows |
